During my Team Project at Howest I worked with the Sportinnovatiemobiel on TeamScore, a digital scoreboard for team buildings, sports days and group activities. Scores were still being tracked by hand on paper or a whiteboard there, hard to keep track of for the host, and not very engaging for the participants.
Together with a small team I built a web-based application made up of two connected interfaces. On a tablet the host sets up a session, adds players or teams, and enters points, times or results during play. At the same moment everything appears live on the big screen: a scoreboard with an animated ranking, round transitions, intermediate standings and a final classification with a podium animation. The app supports several scoring models (points, time, completed/not completed), single games, series and parallel games, along with bonus points, rounds and sets.
I took on most of both the Vue front-end and the Express back-end: the real-time synchronisation over Socket.IO, the data model and score calculation in SQLite, the animations and visual feedback on the scoreboard, and the deployment on a Raspberry Pi that runs entirely offline on location, without an internet connection.
